Large Cache of Arms and Ammunition Seized from Mizoram Border, 3 Members of Santu Group Arrested
A joint operation by BSF (Border Security Force) and Mizoram Police has resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of arms and ammunition in the Lunglei district of Mizoram, near the Bangladesh border. Three individuals, including one woman, were arrested in connection with the illegal arms trade.
Based on intelligence reports, a raid was conducted on Saturday (March 22) night at a house in the Lunglei district, Assam, where authorities recovered 6,200 rounds of 7.62 mm AK series rifle ammunition, 1,800 meters of Cordex, 600 detonators, 20 meters of safety fuse, and other military equipment.
According to BSF sources, the weapons were allegedly being smuggled to armed groups in Myanmar or Bangladesh, though this has not been confirmed yet.
Meanwhile, a Facebook page named ‘Tripura Rajya Janajati Sangh’ claimed that the seized arms and ammunition belonged to the Bangladesh-based Chittagong Hill Tracts People’s Liberation Army (Santu Group).
Notably, this marks the second major arms seizure from Lunglei district within 40 days. Earlier, on February 12, Mizoram Police had seized a significant amount of weapons, including AK-47 rifles and M4 carbines.
