Crackdown on Madrasas in Uttarakhand: 136 Shut Down in Four Days

Channel IR Desk Report

The government of Uttarakhand, India, has launched a massive crackdown on madrasas, shutting down 136 institutions within just four days.

Authorities claim that these madrasas lacked the necessary documentation. However, analysts argue that this move is an attempt to pressure the education system of the Muslim minority.

The highest number of closures took place in Udham Singh Nagar, where 64 madrasas were shut down. In Dehradun, 44 were closed, followed by 26 in Haridwar and two in Pauri Garhwal.

The crackdown is being carried out under the leadership of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. Human rights organizations have condemned the action, calling it an example of religious discrimination.

Experts warn that this decision could restrict educational opportunities for minority communities and deepen social divisions.
